Sustainability

We Love Our Planet

How We Are Making A Difference

WALKHERO, we think of it as a continuous loop that renews itself, from material and manufacturing to product and recycling. Our vision is to use twice-recycled materials in new products—to close the loop like nature does.

Our Materials

Circularity is the future of sustainability. And what does circularity mean? At WALKHERO’s, we think of it as a continuous loop that renews itself, from material and manufacturing to product and recycling. Our vision is to use twice-recycled materials in new products—to close the loop, like nature does.

Our factory has helped us produce the threads that are knitted to shoe uppers with plastic bottles. The plastic bottles are sourced from our carefully selected suppliers and factories that meet our sustainability criteria and process discarded plastics from the oceans.

Plastic Bottles & Marine Plastic

More than 125 million single-use plastic bottles have been turned into our signature thread, which we use to craft all our products. And we've repurposed 400,000 pounds of ocean-bound marine plastic (collected from land within 30 miles of coastlines) by using it to knit our shoes.

Ethical & Environmentally Responsible Leathers

The Leather Working Group is a great resource, because they can tell you [which tanneries] are meeting certain standards. We're members of the Leather Working Group, the world's leading leather environmental compliance organization. And we do a lot of work to make sure that all the leather that we use is a byproduct, which would otherwise be waste. It would either end up in a landfill or burned.

Natural Rubber

Natural Rubber latex is derived from the milky sap of the Lactae Hevea tree. Rubber tappers extract the liquid which is then refined into a dry form of rubber for commercial use.

Rubber is highly resilient, has a large stretch ratio and waterproof. Natural latex rubber is solvent free and more hard wearing than standard petroleum based rubber. We use Natural Latex together with Coconut husk or Natural Cork in our unique Foot Mattresses to add flexibility and comfort underfoot.

We only use Fair Rubber ensuring the improvement of the working and living conditions of the primary producers and the environmentally friendly sustainable production of natural rubber.

Waxed Canvas and (Organic) Cotton

Traditionally used for jeans and bags, this stylish, diverse material is growing in popularity and expanding to other clothing items. The wax is environmentally friendly and protects you from the elements like leather does. On top of being pliable and waterproof, waxed cotton or canvas is much easier to clean than animal leather, which means you cut down on dry cleaning costs and the hazardous chemicals that go along with it!

Sugarcane for Carbon Reduction

Our outsoles are made from organic substances extracted from sugarcane. The sugarcane we use comes from southern Brazil and is grown with very little fertilizer. Therefore, it has the characteristics of low carbon and renewable, so it can be used to replace the traditional sole material derived from petroleum.
